KENNEBUNK – Saturday, November 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 will be an evening of great soups, breads and desserts donated by local restaurants and bakeries at the annual Bowls of Holpe. It is a fundraiser for The New School student programs and Community Outreach Services (COS), the local food pantry. There will be live music and a silent auction to add to the fun. The students have created hand-made pottery bowls that can be purchased and kept. The event will be at The New School, 38 York St. (Route 1 south) in Kennebunk. Call 207-985-3745 to reserve tickets. The dinner is $20 per person and $40 for dinner and a pottery bowl.
The New School is an independent high school that gives students a voice in their own education, learning both in the classroom and in the greater community. The school owns the local thrift store Outta The Box, which was a Senior Project 18 years ago and is now a thriving enterprise and intentional community reuse center. The New School serves both full time students and home schooled students, and invites community groups to make use of the congenial space at the school for group meetings or events. Supporting COS is only one of the community service projects the school is engaged in.
This year they received a sizable grant from the Davis Family Foundation to upgrade the school kitchen to a state approved status and begin a farm to table project with the school greenhouse. The kitchen will be available soon for community groups or local entrepreneurs.
