Wells songwriter Stephen Carrigan releases first single, “The Shipyard,” Nov 13

WELLS – Stephen Carrigan, a songwriter from Wells, Maine, who has been working hard at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 12 years, releases his first single, “The Shipyard,” on Friday, Nov 13. It’s a country song with a little salt. Carrigan wrote it for his crew, but he says it belongs just as much to shipyard workers everywhere.

After years of singing traditional sailors’ songs, including with his band Great Bay Sailor, Carrigan wanted to write songs of his own. The song came to him during a long, quiet shift at the yard. His Nashville friend Jim Prendergast, who warned him he’d heard it all, listened and said, “We should go to Nashville and record that.” They did, recording it this spring with Jim’s band.

“The Shipyard” will be on Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming services starting Nov 13. More at this link.
