SANFORD – Howard D. Doane, 66, of Sanford, formerly of Western Ave in Kennebunk, passed away suddenly at his home in Sanford.

Howard was born May 10, 1960, in Newton, MA, the son of Douglas and Annabelle Burton Doane, and is a graduate of Kennebunk High School, class of 1978.

Soon after graduating, he enlisted in the US Air Force, where he was assigned to weather specialist courses, and was briefly stationed in Korea.

Howard received his honorable discharge in 1986, leaving the service as a Staff Seargent, when they were going through a period of downsizing the military.   Arriving back in Kennebunk, he owned Highland Construction and was a builder while also volunteering with KFR. he began taking courses with the Kennebunk Fire Department, eventually earning his certification in Fire Fighting and medical certification as a Paramedic. For many years, he ran with Kennebunk Fire Department as a volunteer and per-diem fire fighter, working full-time with the Ogunquit Fire Department and part time with the South Berwick Fire Department. Additionally, he worked as a Hazmat Technician for the York County Hazmat Team.

Howard loved to be outdoors, be it spending time on the golf course, getting up at all hours to catch the right tidal action for stripers, and finding his favorite stand for hunting.

Howard is survived by his children, Douglas Doane, Christianne Doane, both of Kennebunk, Annabel Doane of Medford, MA, stepdaughter Elicia Hilton of Kennebunk, his former wife Tatjana Doane of Kennebunk, and three grandchildren, Brayden, Mercadey, and Trinity.

A time of visitation will be held 9 to 10:30AM on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, with a funeral mass to follow at 11 AM at Holy Spirit Parish St. Martha’s Church, 30 Portland Road, Kennebunk.  Interment will follow in Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale.

Arrangements are in the care of Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, ME 04043.
